Watch Conan O'Brien Try To Convince Dwayne Johnson He'd Be A Good Stunt Double

When one has someone as affable as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson on your late night show, one should always strive to do something zany with the actor. This week, Conan O'Brien didn't disappoint. The late night host brought Dwayne Johnson in as part of his promotion for the upcoming movie Rampage, and during a viral segment, Conan also tried to convince The Rock he'd be the perfect stunt double. Check it out, below.

Conan O'Brien spent the first few minutes of this delightful Conan sketch blithely telling The Rock that when he looks at the action star, he feels as if he is looking in the mirror. When The Rock tried to object, noting the two really don't have the same physique, Conan told him to stop trailing off, mentioning he's like "an awkward Alexa." (This cracked Johnson up far more than expected.) Later, O'Brien admitted that he'd really like to train to be Dwayne Johnson's stunt double... since they look so alike, after all.

Dwayne Johnson may have been questioning Conan O'Brien's ability to pull off being his stunt double, but Conan seemed to be certainly willing to go all out for the role, donning the same attire and even an ill-fitting bald cap.

The whole thing is farcical, but if you like the idea of watching "stunt double" Conan O'Brien get thrown across a stainless steel table covered in glass objects, you should get a kick out of this one. In real life, Dwayne Johnson's stunt double is none other than his cousin Tanoai Reed, who has been doing stunts for the actor on the big screen for well over a decade. If you've never checked into Reed, he looks a lot like his more famous cousin. No matter how much O'Brien tries, he has a better chance of passing himself off as Finnish politician Tarja Halonen than anyone else...

Back when the Amazing Spider-Man film series was still going, Sony was planning to release several films to turn this franchise into a cinematic universe, Sinister Six being one of these movies. But once The Amazing Spider-Man 2 underperformed and Sony teamed up with Marvel Studios to bring the Web-Slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sinister Six was shelved. Four years later, Drew Goddard still looks back fondly at his time writing Sinister Six and notes that perhaps there will come a day where his movie becomes a reality. In Goddard's words:

It was really fun. I wouldn't have done it had I not thought there was a real opportunity to do something different and exciting and just flat-out bananas. It was very much me and --- a much more commercial version of --- the Cabin mentality. The punk rock mentality that led to Cabin is very much at the core of Sinister Six. That's a fun one. Who knows, it could see the light of day. It's funny, I've been through a lot of volatility at a lot of different studios. Between MGM and Sony and Fox. At a certain point, you start to realize, 'Oh, this is just a volatile business' and you try to stay afloat as the boat rocks back and forth.

The movie-making world is indeed volatile, especially when it comes to the superhero genre. Sony was so sure that the Amazing Spider-Man continuity was going to grow, and less than half a decade later, Tom Holland's Spider-Man is one of the most important characters in the MCU. So even though Sinister Six has been gathering dust, as Drew Goddard mentioned to THR, perhaps his script might be dusted off at some point if enough things change.

Whether or not Drew Goddard's Sinister Six movie ever sees the light of day, seeds have already been planted for the super villain team to possibly introduced into the MCU. In the Spider-Man: Homecoming mid-credits scene, Mac Gargan, better known in the comics as The Scorpion, found Michael Keaton's Adrian Toomes, a.k.a. Vulture, in prison and mentioned he and several others on the outside wanted to get revenge on Spider-Man. So perhaps in a third MCU Spider-Man movie or beyond, this sinister group of six villains will officially band together.

Then there's Sony universe of Spider-Man characters, which kicked off last weekend with the release of Venom and will include movies like Morbius and Kraven the Hunter. Given that there's been no official announcement of Spider-Man, whether he's played by Tom Holland or a brand-new version, being involved in this particular franchise, it's difficult to imagine how a Sinister Six movie could work without the Wall-Crawler being present. Then again, perhaps the story could be adjusted to work with a different hero, like Silk or Miles Morales.

The Spider-Man saga will continue when Spider-Man: Far From Home spins its web in theaters on July 5, 2019. For the Drew Goddard fans out there, his latest directorial endeavor, Bad Times at the El Royale, is now playing in theaters.

Thomas Haden Church notoriously played The Sandman in Sam Raimi's third (and final) Spider-Man movie, the cleverly titled Spider-Man 3. Fans refer to it as "the one when everything flew off the rails and went to pieces," primarily because Raimi bowed to studio pressure to include Venom, a villain he had no interest in exploring. Instead, Church says that The Vulture was supposed to be around for his movie, then carry a fourth movie down the line. The actor says:

When they first pitched me the movie, Sandman and, of course, (James) Franco's transformation to the Goblin, we were who he (Spider-Man) had to deal with in the picture and Venom wasn't even in it. They introduced at the very beginning the character of Vulture, but he was only in it briefly, and then at the very end of that picture they were gonna bring The Vulture back just to sorta set the stage that he was probably going to be the main villain in Spider-Man 4. But then, obviously all of that stuff sort of derailed. Well, not so much derailed, but took a different railway.

Last year, Jon Watts' Spider-Man: Homecoming marked a number of firsts for the famous web-slinger. It was the first time Spider-Man was able to play in the same sandbox as his Marvel counterparts, thanks to a rights sharing deal between Sony and Marvel Studios. It also was the first time that Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton), aka The Vulture, was used on screen in a Spider-Man movie. But Church's comments confirm what we had been hearing, which is that The Vulture was going to be on deck in an earlier form, setting the stage for Spider-Man 4.

We had heard those rumblings before, as concept art that leaked a while back showed possible sketches of both The Vulture and also Mysterio, another villain who has yet to see the light of day in a Spider-Man movie. This seems ballsy of Sam Raimi to be sketching out the next TWO Spider-Man movies, though seeing as how he was coming off of the wild success of Spider-Man 2, I guess I can see why he had confidence in his saga. Spider-Man 3 shows how quickly a franchise can fall apart, thanks to some questionable decisions.

Instead of teasing The Vulture in Spider-Man 3, as Thomas Haden Church tells JoBlo, we got the villain in Spider-Man: Homecoming, a movie that properly established Peter Parker (Tom Holland) in the MCU. The hero will return this summer in Avengers: Infinity War, as well as Avengers 4. In a little over a month, Steven Spielberg will return to blockbuster filmmaking with Ready Player One. The Ernest Cline novel upon which the film is based is a pastiche of 80s pop culture references, so who better to bring such a film to the big screen than one of that decade's most influential directors? The nostalgia is strong with this one, and in keeping with that theme, the newest poster for Ready Player One looks like it came straight out of the 1980s. The poster is a gorgeous blast from the past and classic Spielberg. Take a look.

That Ready Player One poster would look right at home tacked next to a poster for The Last Starfighter, or featured on a VHS box at your local video store. If Warner Bros. is looking for this film to capture the same type of excitement and warm nostalgia as Netflix's Stranger Things, then this poster is certainly a step in the right direction. From the tagline at the top to the painterly style to the arrangement (and almost angelic glow) of the characters, everything (even down to the font) evokes those classic posters from the 1980s.

The Ready Player One poster is definitely using that Drew Struzan aesthetic that defined the 1980s and is best-known thanks to the artist's work on the posters for the original Star Wars films. However, Drew Struzan's art also appeared on the posters for Steven Spielberg films such as Hook and Indiana Jones, as well as Spielberg-produced films like Back to the Future and The Goonies. All staples of the 80s (Hook is '91, but close enough) with memorable, and in some cases iconic, posters.

It's kind of funny; even if you don't have a name for this aesthetic or know the artist behind it, you can immediately recognize it as familiar. Such is the prevalence of Drew Struzan's art and the comforting embrace of nostalgia. With any luck, Ready Player One will attain the classic status enjoyed by so many of Steven Spielberg's other films.

The poster itself, like the trailer, is chock full of pop culture references too, including the Iron Giant, a Gundam, the DeLorean time machine and a monster truck. Once upon a time, there were no movie websites or social media platforms or forums full of spoilerific details. You would simply go to a video store or be at the theater and see a poster for a movie. Based on the poster/box art alone, you would decide if you had to see it.

Ready Player One arrives in theaters to blow your minds and make you jealous if you didn't grow up in the 1980s on March 29.
